GA4 Direct
This guide walks you through connecting Epigraph Analytics to Google Analytics 4 without using Google Tag Manager.
RequirementsBefore you begin, make sure you have:
- An Epigraph solution implemented on your website
- A Google Analytics 4 property connected to your site (using gtag.js)
- Admin access to your GA4 property
Phase 1: Add GA4 ID to Your Epigraph Solution
Follow the instructions in the adding-a-measurement-id-to-epigraph-solutions section
Phase 2: Grant Epigraph GA4 Access
After you've added the measurement ID to your Epigraph component, grant our team temporary access to complete the setup:
- In Google Analytics, go to Admin
- Under Account Access Management, click Add Users (or use Property Access Management)
- Add this email: [email protected]
- Set the role to Editor
- Click Add
About Access LevelsWe need Editor access temporarily to create custom dimensions and audiences. Once setup is complete (typically 4–6 weeks), you can downgrade this to Analyst or Viewer level.
Confirm with Epigraph
Let your Epigraph contact know that you've:
- ✅ Added the
measurement-idattribute to your Epigraph component - ✅ Verified events are firing in GA4
- ✅ Granted Editor access to [email protected]
We'll take it from here and notify you when your dashboard is ready.
What Happens Next
Once we confirm access, our team will:
- Create 15 custom dimensions in your GA4 property to capture Epigraph-specific data
- Build 10 audience segments for enhanced user targeting (e.g., "AR Users," "Configurator Completers")
- Configure your Looker Studio dashboard with KPIs tailored to your implementation
Timeline: Your dashboard will be ready within 4–6 weeks of confirmed setup. We'll reach out with a link and walkthrough.
Events We Track
Once implemented, Epigraph Analytics automatically captures:
| Event Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| 3D Viewer | Model loads, rotation, zoom, time spent |
| AR Experience | AR launches, QR scans, session duration |
| Configurator | Option selections, configuration completions, add-to-cart |
| Buttons | Click-throughs, engagement rates |
| Hotspots | Hotspot opens, interactions, dwell time |
Troubleshooting
Events aren't appearing in GA4
- Check the attribute: Verify
measurement-idis spelled correctly and contains your full Measurement ID (format:G-XXXXXXXXXX) - Check for typos: The ID is case-sensitive
- Verify in Realtime: GA4's Realtime report shows events within seconds; standard reports can take 24–48 hours
- Check browser console: Look for any JavaScript errors that might prevent the component from loading
I'm not sure if my GA4 ID is correct
Your Measurement ID should:
- Start with
G-followed by 10 alphanumeric characters - Be found in GA4 under Admin → Data Streams → your web stream
I have multiple Epigraph components on one page
Add the measurement-id attribute to each component. Events will be sent to the same GA4 property.
